Dark Moon in Sagittarius Ritual

A New or Dark Moon is the clean slate or tabula rasa that holds the energy to start a new project or nurture an idea. In December, the New Moon is influenced by Sagittarius, whose childlike wonder encourages us to expand, grow, and explore the possibilities - especially those that are unseen.

Ritual Ingredients:
Black candle or Dark Moon candle
Dried herbs that you have gathered or found in your kitchen
ShiShi oil
one carnation flower
shelled sunflower seeds
altar cloth

Some notes on the ingredients: The candle can be any size from spell candles to a rolled beeswax candle to a birthday candle you coat with a little charcoal. Tis' the season to try new things. Take a new perspective. I do not condone using mass harvested sage, taken without spiritual prayers. I do support growing and sustainably wildcrafting herbs. I gather only what I need from the same wild sage bush every year that has grown on our family land for decades with prayers and offerings. You can also take herbs from your kitchen cabinet, such as basil for protection, and sprinkle on a lit charcoal round in a fire safe container. ShiShi oil is a proprietary blended oil for financial gain. I like the ShiShi oil from Eye of the Cat shop. Using a special cloth or scarf for your altar “sets the table” for the Magick to begin.

Take three deep breaths. Ground and center your attention on receiving a new perspective to manifest your desires. Be willing to be willing to ditch your comfort zone for enlightenment and adventure.

Place a black candle or Dark Moon candle, one carnation flower, and shelled sunflower seeds on an altar cloth. Direct herbal smoke (such as a bundle of mugwort or white sage) or around yourself with a feather. Focus on purifying your mind, body and spirit of anything that blocks your inner truth from shining brightly.

Anoint yourself with ShiShi oil by tracing a pentagram on your third eye. This oil magnifies the positive energy that you want to draw in and will help you to expand the horizon of the possibilities in your future.

Draw the perimeter of your circle with your forefinger and middle finger. Welcome in the Divine Feminine by sprinkling carnation petals around the altar candle. Welcome in the Divine Masculine by pouring seeds around the altar candle. Light the candle to represent lighting your Divine Inner Self.

Face each direction beginning in the east and welcome the energy of each cardinal point. Imagine a flaming blue pentagram in the east. Charge the pentagram by visually touching the center of the pentacle and anointing this magickal portal with your inner light. Take a moment to sit in silent salute. Invoking the east, say: “Watchers of the East, Dwellers on mountains high, Searchers of the earth, Hear my sigh, my plea to thee! Attend! As you feed the flames, As you cool the earth, As you dance with the waves, Hear my plea, attend!”

Turn to the west and imagine the flaming blue pentagram and visual your inner light anointing the center of the pentagram. Invoking the south, say: “Watchers of the South, Keepers of the lightning bolts, Stokers for the volcano’s fierce fire, Hear my cry, my plea to thee! Attend! As you are the furnace of the earth, As you are mate to the air, As you float upon the sea in the sun’s rays, Hear my plea. Attend!”

Turn to the south and imagine the flaming blue pentagram and visual your inner light anointing the center of the pentagram. Invoking the west, say: “Watchers of the West, Fleet shadows in the swift stream, Riders of the waves, Hear my call, my plea to thee! Attend! As you ground the flame, As cloud form you dance in the sky, As you slake the earth’s thirst, Hear my plea, Attend!”

Turn to the north and imagine the flaming blue pentagram and visual your inner light anointing the center of the pentagram. Invoking the north, say: “Watchers of the North, Guardians of the Mother of us all, Dwellers in crystal caverns deep, Hear my song, my plea to thee! Attend!” As you are the cauldron for the earth’s fire, As you are chalice for ocean and stream, As you wear the air as your robe, Hear my plea, Attend!

Draw the symbol of the Sagittarius arrow on a large piece of paper. Get as creative as you want with colored markers, fabrics, crayons, chalk. As you draw this arrow consider Sagittarius qualities of the spirited adventurer, wanderer, lifelong student. With childlike wonder, this energy invites you to explore new horizons and opportunities by remaining open to the possibilities that you cannot see. Meditate on opening your third eye, expanding your vision.

Chant:

“I open my third eye so that I can see

Each and every unseen possibility

With childlike wonder, my faith shines bright

Drawing the desires of my Inner Light”

Thank the four directions and the Divine Source for being present for your ritual. Either douse the flame or allow it to continue to burn out based on preference and safety.
